Fresh Fashion Library was founded in 2016 by two best friends and entrepreneurs Samia Syed (left) and Zoey Wen (right)
Our mission is to inspire sustainable fashion choices and empower better living.
Since the beginning, we’ve stuck to our core values of community, sustainability, and empowerment.
We are on a journey to explore the possibilities of what a future of circular fashion could look like. Here are some important milestones along the way-
Fresh Fashion Library (formerly FreshRents) started out as a peer-to-peer online marketplace where members can exchange items.
It all started with our co-founder Samia Syed’s speech at her sister’s wedding: “What I’ll miss about living with my sister is definitely her closet.” What started out as simply wanting a larger closet made Samia realize that this could be a solution for many women who dream of having the “perfect wardrobe”. Our Version of "Rent the Runway"
With co-founder Zoey Wen joining the team, the business model evolved to focus on high-end formal and occasion-wear rentals. We worked with local retailers and emerging sustainable designers (like Peggy Sue Collection) to make quality fashion accessible and affordable for our customers.
We listened to what women in our community wanted out of a wardrobe and piloted Toronto’s first shared wardrobe- a fashion library for everyday outfits and occasion-wear.
Our library system allowed members to access everything in the library on a rotational basis. We also encouraged members to lend their loved-but-under-used items and hosted clothing swap events. We built a community of more than 300 members, and supported over 3000 borrowing, lending, and swapping activities.
So much has changed in our world since the discovery of the Coronavirus Covid-19. In consideration of the health and safety concerns of clothing exchange, we will be closing our rental and subscription services effective immediately.
Our entire library collection of curated one-of-a-kind pieces is now available for purchase online, shipped anywhere in the world.
