We all want to feel like a fashion queen who’s decked out in designer from head to toe. But if you’re like me who’s managing a part time job serving coffee and donuts to people in the early hours of the morning, then those designer dreams might not come true right away.
A decent designer dress might cost you anywhere between $100 and up to $3000. Three thousand dollars for a Balmain dress that, instead, could pay for a semester’s worth of tuition? I’ll pass. I’m trying to get on the best dressed list without going broke. So you might ask, “Help! What can I do to look bougie but on a budget?” Well friends, look no further, I’m here to help (and save you some big bucks).
I will show you one of the looks put together by yours truly, accompanied with some personal tips to give you that extra umf in your look. Here are the top 3 ways I achieve the bougie queen status: accessorizing, makeup, and renting! These are super simple steps you can follow to make your outfit pop and be the centre of attention wherever you are!
You’ve probably heard the term that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and I totally agree. Honestly, anything shiny can be your best friend, and make you look top class bougie. The ever-so classic gold hoop earrings are back in style, providing you with that minimalistic look while still looking like you have $10,000 chilling in your bank account.
One of my favourite accessories is a silk neck scarf. When I tell you that your outfit can go from “Nice.”, to “Nice!” with this one accessory, you best believe it. While designer silk scarves tend to be $300+, you can find them at your local accessory stores for probably under $20, while still looking like you’re rocking designer. It can really tie your outfit together — plus it’s comfortable (who’s going to say no to comfort?)
Makeup is a gift sent from above, allowing me achieve that killer highlight as if golden hour was 24 hours a day. The best part is that you don’t even have to be a skilled artist for this! Trust me, I don’t allow myself to go near eyeshadow, or I’ll come out looking like I got a black eye. The three products that I would recommend: lipstick, highlight and some sort of brow gel/pencil. Now, why these three out of the millions of products you can apply? Well, these three are able to make it look like Kim K’s makeup artist did his magic on you! A little bit of brow gel can structure your face well, a swipe of red lipstick and a sprinkle of highlight is the recipe that will give you that bougie glow.
And finally, the outfit! The most important part, the one thing that everyone’s eyes will be on. Will you believe me if I tell you that you can sport Valentino for only $50? Yes, that’s right, five zero. Let’s be real, you buy a dress, wear it to the event, and stash it in the corner of your closet, glancing upon it once in a while, muttering to yourself “but I wore that already…” Are you ready to save money and closet space? Get ready ‘cause FreshRents has you covered. This look features this beautiful black Red Valentino Bow Dress that gives you an accentuated waist with the simple one knotted bow. The best part of this LBD is that it’s simple enough to apply the bougie on a budget tips from above, but still has an attitude of its own. But to really make it appear like a bougie look, I paired this with the Valentino Garavani Small Rock, for only $60. Compared to the original price of $2900, I think I got a pretty good deal.
The best part of this is that you can express your unique style with this outfit. Whether you want to add that pop of red lipstick and sprinkle of highlight, or you want to be bold and swipe on a bright shade of blue, this look can really be accustomed to your personal preference.
